One of the biggest moves in life is buying your home.  As probably the most expensive move of your life, it is (for most people) a very big decision so getting it right in the first place is always going to be the best thing to do.  This being the case, where do you start and how do you go about it? Firstly you have obviously found your preferred location and made your decisions as to why you want to move there so what else can you do next to pinpoint your new dream home?  You know what you are looking for and have a good idea of your budget as well as the type of home you want to find so the next step is to locate the home, which is where the estate agent comes into the picture.  This choice is very important to you as he will have to take stock of what you are looking for and be the one to go out into the big wide yonder and look for what you want. This begs the question as to what kind of agent you need and who is the right one for your needs as a whole?  That being said what are some of the qualities you’re looking for from them and why choose one over the other?

The very first thing you need in any real estate agent is the communication aspect taken care of because if he can not understand what you want there is no way he’s going to be in a position to find the right place for you is he?  So he needs to be able to sit down with you and get a good grip on what you want together with all of the additional information from location to budget and so on. First rule is communication is key!

Best in the business

So you’re looking for the best in the business basically so let’s look for some of the other qualities were going to need from them like a positive outlook and a proactive approach to getting you what you want. They will have to go out and actively find the right choice which will involve calling around to various places and other agent to go find the right property and not just promise the earth and do next to nothing.  They are going to be working for you in effect so have to go out there and chase down the list of possibilities. So how will you know when you have a good agent?

Key qualities

Your agent should be in communication with you on a regular basis letting you know what they have found and the details.  This is one of the first signs of a good agent as he will be able to demonstrate what he is doing on a day to day basis keeping you fully informed (as well as taking into account your feedback) all of the time.

When taking the above into account you should be well on the way to your dream home in the shortest possible time frame and with the least amount of hassle, after all the only way you’re both going to be truly happy is when the transaction is finally completed. They get paid you get your home and everyone has had a good relationship in the process.
